My New Year’s resolution is almost always the same, “get out into nature more often!”
So New Year’s Day we hopped on over to Sweet Creek Falls in Mapleton, Oregon https://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/siuslaw/recreation/recarea/?recid=42669
It was about a 40 minute drive west from Eugene. When you turn off the main road to drive towards the falls it feels like you’re in a car commercial. Driving down a winding road with beauty to behold on both sides of the road.
When we arrived it was about 2 o’clock on a Sunday. It was still fairly busy, we passed photographers, fishermen, and hikers enjoying the view. The falls themselves were a mix of creek and waterfalls. During the summer you can actually walk out and explore the water, but in the winter months the falls are very rapid and too cold to enjoy.
We were perfectly pleased to just hike the trails and cross over the man-made bridges until we tuckered out our little guy. On the way home we stopped in at the Old World Gingerbread Village Restaurant to grab a bite to eat. If you have ever hiked the Sweet Creek Falls Trailhead let me know your favorite spot!
